linux how to get network card to initiate on bootup

I have to initiate ifup eth0 to get my network up every boothow to get it autoconfig?

go into the config scripts
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

open ifcfg-eth0 and look for the onboot=*
if it's no then you say yes
